R. Vance Peavy Memorial Fund
“To ask: What kind of career is best and possible for me is to ask: How should I live my life?” (R. Vance Peavy, 2002) The R. Vance Peavy Memorial Fund was established at the request of his family to continue Vance's legacy of innovation and scholarship in career counselling research, writing and practice. The fund is directed by a Committee of Vance’s colleagues and administered by the Canadian Career Development Foundation (CCDF). Members of the Committee are Barbara MacCallum, President of CCDF and Chair, Dr. Armelle Spain, Université Laval, Dr. Ishu Ishiyama, U.B.C., Stu Conger, founder of NATCON and Lynne Bezanson, CCDF. Judith Koltai Peavy acts in an honorary and advisory capacity.
The Memorial Fund is being used to ensure that Vance’s publications, published and unpublished, remain accessible, and his SocioDynamic constructivist approaches continue to be available. Initiatives
The following initiatives have been undertaken since the Fund’s creation. The Committee continues to explore and support initiatives which keep Vance’s contributions accessible and his legacy alive.
- Sustaining Vance’s website at www.sociodynamic-constructivist-counselling.com;
- The publication of “SocioDynamic Counselling: An Approach to Meaning-Making.” This book is available through the Taos Institute at www.taosinstitute.org;
- The R. Vance Peavy Archive of his published and unpublished writing:
One of the main initiatives supported by the Fund is the archiving of Vance Peavy’s published and unpublished writing. Listings of his work are available below. Copies of unpublished papers may be ordered by emailing CCDF. Copying and shipping costs will apply. - A pre-conference workshop was delivered through George Brown College and offered in partnership with the Canadian Counselling Association (May, 2005). This workshop was Part 1 of a certificate program in SocioDynamic Constructivist Counselling offered by George Brown College. Parts 2 and 3 will be available at George Brown College and the Committee intends to explore other avenues to have these components made available. The Committee will also explore additional venues to offer ongoing counsellor training in Vance’s approaches both in Canada and internationally;
- Archiving of Vance’s extensive personal library is complete and plans are underway to house this collection and make it available to the career counselling community.
